Different symptoms result from the deficiency of cortisol, aldosterone, or s-ex hormones. In secondary adrenal insufficiency, the pituitary gland doesn’t secrete enough ACTH. This does not affect aldosterone secretion, which is mainly controlled by the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. As a result, while cortisol deficiency may be present, hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, and dehydration are less common, since aldosterone is not compromised.
